It’s summer and one of our favorite activities is grilling and outdoor entertaining. Until, of course, the bugs invade. So how do you continue to enjoy summer entertaining with no bugs?
With three kiddos and grilling our dinner, pesticides are not something we want to add to the mix. What’s a healthy, safe alternative? One Kings Lane has a simple, effective gardening tip to accomplish your summer entertaining with no bugs.
In place of spray and pesticides, try a cluster of mosquito-repelling potted plants. Grouped together near a seating area on your deck or patio, they make a pretty and lush addition to your outdoor landscape while also protecting you and your guests.
Check out One Kings Lane’s article Easy Update: Mosquito-Repelling Potagerie for more information about how a trio of lush potted plants will have you saying good-bye to bug spray.

I’m going to try this next summer! Thanks for the link and information!
Great idea! Can’t wait to try this out in the summer.
Bookmarking this to use next year! Thanks!
I wonder if that really works to keep all of the bugs away. I would probably still use spray.
I love this . I have a lot of animals around and neighbors have small children. I love this . I need to go to the nurserys to find these plants.. Who knew? Great For me I love plants Thank You!!
I love using pot plants instead of chemicals. Mosquitos are horrible here. At one time I had a 4 o’clock plant growing a few feet away from my front door. I was sitting outside and notice that it was covered in mosquitos and none were biting me. WooHoo!
I have never considered that plants placed strategically can help control bugs. There’s nothing worse than eating outside than having the annoyance of bugs all over. also, the less unhealthy and dangerous pesticides around ourselves, children and pets, the better. Win-Win.
“Catnip is said to be 10 times more effective than DEET in repelling mosquitoe”s. If I had had any idea about this, I would have grown it years ago, the same for West Indian lemongrass being citronella. I plan to grow both next year and see how that works out. Thanks for the link.
